What Aluminium Windows Really Cost in Ghana
The honest answer to “what does an aluminium window cost in Ghana?” has two parts. The first is a real, modest number: bare aluminium window units have been listed from around GH₵100 on the Ghana classifieds market as an indicative entry point. The second is the part most buyers actually need: that figure is for a bare unit only, and a specified, fabricated and installed window is quoted on survey — because the opening decides the price far more than the bare frame does.
This guide explains why, so you can read a quote with open eyes rather than chase a headline number that would not hold. Aluminium Installers Ghana has priced and installed aluminium windows across Ghana since 1988, and we quote what the opening honestly needs.
The Two Numbers — Listed Unit vs Installed Window
A marketplace listing and a finished, installed window are two different costs:
- The listed unit — around GH₵100 and up as an indicative entry point — is a bare frame, no glazing decision, no anchoring, no weather-sealing, no install.
- The installed window — the frame plus the right glass, the gaskets, the hardware, the anchoring back to the structure and the perimeter seal — is what actually keeps wind and water out.
Treat the listing as a floor reference, not a quote. The install is the rest of the cost, and it is the part that performs.
The Five Variables That Move the Price
1. Opening Size & Quantity
Bigger openings carry more aluminium and more glass, and a job of forty windows is priced differently from a job of four. Both size and quantity move the figure.
2. The Frame System
A sliding window is generally lower-priced than a casement; a tilt-turn, with its two-action hardware, sits above both. The opening action you choose changes the unit cost. (See the Buying Guide for how to choose.)
3. The Glazing
Single glazing is the lower-priced entry point. Double glazing (IGU) costs more but cuts heat gain and noise. Laminated or toughened glass adds cost where safety or security requires it.
4. The Thermal Break
A thermal-break frame costs more than a standard one and earns it on air-conditioned buildings, where it reduces heat gain and condensation. On a naturally ventilated room it is often an unneeded cost — we specify it to the building.
5. The Finish
Mill is lowest-priced and rarely specified on finished work; anodised and powder-coated (RAL colour) finishes cost more and are the usual choice for a finished building.
Why the Installed Price Is On Survey
A per-window installed price depends on the real openings, the glazing, the system, the finish and the access — a ground-floor opening and a high-rise elevation are not the same install. These are measured on site, never estimated from a desk. A fixed number quoted before survey would either pad the easy jobs or under-quote the hard ones; either way it would not be honest. That is why our answer for installed work is genuinely on survey.
What You Get for the Money
The installed price buys more than a frame in a hole:
- A system specified to the elevation’s wind and water exposure
- Glazing chosen for the room, not defaulted
- Frames set plumb, square and mechanically anchored to the structure
- A sealed, weatherproofed perimeter so wind and water stop at the frame
- Operation and seals checked, hardware adjusted, and the system handed over with our workmanship warranty
That warranty is our own decade-long commercial guarantee on the installation — a commercial commitment, not an industry test standard.
How Performance Is Verified
So a quote means something, the window’s performance is measured to real standards: air leakage to ASTM E283, water penetration to ASTM E331, and structural/wind load to ASTM E330, with the work executed to EN 1090 (EN 1090-3 for aluminium). A cheaper unit that has never been specified to a performance class is not a saving — it is a deferred leak.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is GH₵100 a realistic price for an aluminium window? As a bare-unit entry point on the classifieds market, yes — but it is not the price of a finished, installed window. The glazing, anchoring and weather-sealing that make the window actually work are not in that number. Treat GH₵100 as an indicative floor, not a quote.
Why won’t you give me a fixed installed price over the phone? Because the opening decides it, and we have not seen your opening. Size, glazing, system, finish, exposure and access all move the figure. We survey first so the price is honest rather than padded or under-quoted.
Does double glazing really pay back in Ghana? On air-conditioned and noise-exposed rooms, yes — lower cooling load and a quieter room. On a naturally ventilated room it often does not earn its cost. We specify glass to the room rather than upsell it everywhere.
Is a lower-priced window a false economy? It can be. A unit that was never specified to a performance class, or that is installed without proper anchoring and sealing, leaks in the first hard storm. The honest saving is in specifying correctly the first time, not in buying the bare frame.
