Aluminium Entrance Canopies and Shopfronts — The First Thing a Customer Sees

The Entrance Is a Business Decision

A customer decides something about a shop, a bank branch, a clinic or a hotel before they reach the door — and the entrance is what they decide it from. A clean, well-made aluminium canopy and shopfront says the business is established and cared for; a sagging, rust-streaked one says the opposite, no matter how good the business inside is. So an entrance is not decoration. It is a commercial decision that also has to do real physical work: shelter the doorway from the Accra sun and the storm-season downpour, carry the signage, and survive years of daily use. We design, fabricate and install these, and the good ones are engineered as carefully as they are styled.

What an Entrance Canopy Actually Has to Do

A canopy looks simple and is not. It is a cantilever — a structure projecting out from the building with nothing under its outer edge — and every metre it projects increases the load it has to carry back into the wall.

Carrying Its Own Load

The canopy carries its own weight, the wind trying to lift it (uplift is often the governing load on a canopy, not downward weight), and in the storm season the weight of driving rain and ponding water if it does not drain. We size the frame, the cantilever and the fixings back into the structure for those loads, and we detail the drainage so water runs off rather than pooling and finding its way into the building. This structural-fabrication discipline is the same one behind our specialty fabrication work.

Sun and Storm, Specifically

In the Ghana climate the canopy is fighting two things: relentless UV and sudden heavy rain. We specify the finish — anodised or powder-coated to a RAL colour — for the exposure, and we detail the joints and falls so the canopy sheds water cleanly. A canopy that ponds water is a canopy that will stain, sag and eventually leak.

The Shopfront — More Than Glass in a Frame

A shopfront is the glazed face of the entrance: the framing, the glass, the entrance doors and often the signage zone above. Done well it is weather-tight, secure and on-brand. The framing carries the glass and the doors and seals against wind and rain; the glass is specified — toughened or laminated for safety and security where the public passes through; and the doors are sized and hung to take heavy daily traffic without dropping or binding. The performance is held to real standards:

Where the shopfront sits within a larger facade, we coordinate it with the building’s commercial cladding so the entrance reads as part of the whole, not bolted on.

Brand-Built — Not Off the Shelf

The reason a shopfront is fabricated rather than bought is that it carries a brand. The RAL colour, the proportions, the signage zone, a feature canopy profile or a laser-cut brand motif in the fascia — these are designed to the identity of the business. A bank branch, a pharmacy and a boutique hotel each need a different entrance, and a custom aluminium shopfront lets each one be itself while still being weather-tight and durable underneath.

What Drives the Cost

A custom canopy and shopfront is quoted on the design and the survey, because the projection, the glass and the structure decide the figure far more than the frontage width. We never quote the lowest number; we quote an entrance that will still look right and stay watertight in years to come. Every installed entrance carries our decade warranty on the workmanship.
