Why a 10-Year Installation Warranty Matters — and What It Is Not
A Warranty Is a Promise About the Future
When the installer has left and the scaffolding is down, a beautiful aluminium facade or window suite looks finished. Whether it actually was finished correctly only becomes visible later — when the first hard storm tests the seals, when the coastal air tests the finish, when a sliding door has been opened ten thousand times. A 10-year installation warranty is the company’s promise to be there when that test arrives, and to put right anything that was its fault. That is why we offer it on our work. But before you weigh one installer’s warranty against another’s, there is an honest distinction that most of the market never explains, and we want to be the ones who do.
What This Warranty Actually Is — In Plain Words
This is the part that matters most, so we will say it directly.
Our 10-year installation warranty is a commercial guarantee, not an engineering standard. It is a promise from Aluminium Installers Ghana to the client. It is not an international code, it is not a certification body’s rating, and it does not carry a standard number the way the engineering specifications do. When someone says “this is built to a 10-year standard”, be careful — there is no such standard. There are real engineering standards that govern how the work is fabricated and tested, and separately there is a company’s warranty that backs the workmanship. Confusing the two is how clients get sold a promise dressed up as a certification.
So we keep them clearly separate.
The Real Standards (the engineering)
The fabrication and performance of the work are held to genuine, numbered standards:
- EN 1090 — execution of the aluminium structure, to the relevant Execution Class
- ASTM E283 — air leakage of windows, doors and facades
- ASTM E331 — water penetration under static pressure
- ASTM E330 — structural performance under wind load
- AAMA 501 — field-testing methodology for installed curtain-wall and glazed facades
These are what the work is built and verified to. They are real, they have numbers, and they exist whether or not anyone offers a warranty.
The Warranty (the commercial promise)
Layered on top of that engineering is our decade warranty — our own commercial guarantee on the installation workmanship for ten years. It is the company saying: we stand behind how we fitted, anchored and sealed this, and if our workmanship fails in that period, we come back. It is exactly as strong as the company offering it. A warranty from a one-job outfit that may not exist next year is worth little. A warranty from a firm that has fabricated and installed across Ghana since 1988 is worth what it says.
Why a Workmanship Warranty Is the Right Thing to Promise
Most aluminium failures are not material failures. The aluminium profile, the glass and the finish rarely fail on their own. What fails is the install — a frame fitted out of plumb, an under-anchored canopy, a perimeter seal done badly, a structural-glazing bead that was never given the conditions to cure. Those are workmanship issues, and a workmanship warranty is precisely the promise that covers them. By guaranteeing the installation for ten years, we are putting our name against the part that actually fails.
What Makes the Warranty Real Rather Than a Slogan
A warranty is only as good as the documentation behind it. On our work the warranty comes with a handover package — what was specified, what was installed, the finish and glass used, and the performance the system was built to. That record is what lets a future facilities team, or us, know exactly what is covered and how to maintain it. A warranty with no documentation is a slogan; a warranty with a handover record is an asset. We also tell you plainly what a warranty does not cover — accidental damage, misuse, or a failure caused by another trade’s later work — because an honest warranty has honest boundaries.
The Honest Cost Point
A firm that prices to come back if its workmanship fails for ten years has to price the work properly in the first place — it cannot cut the anchoring, the sealing or the finish and still afford to stand behind it. So the warranty and the price are linked: a genuine decade-backed installation is not the lowest number on the table, and it should not be. We never quote the lowest figure; we quote work we can honestly guarantee for ten years, and the warranty is the proof we mean it.
Ask the Right Questions
When you compare installers, ask three things: what real engineering standards is the work built and tested to; is the 10-year cover a documented workmanship warranty or just a verbal claim; and will the company plausibly still be here in 2036 to honour it. Those questions separate a real guarantee from a sales line.
