How Much Do Aluminium Windows Cost in Ghana?
The Question Everyone Asks First
The first thing almost every client asks us is a fair one: “How much is an aluminium window?” It is a reasonable question, and the honest answer frustrates people at first, because the honest answer is “it depends on the opening.” That is not an evasion. It is the difference between a bare frame and a window that keeps a hard Accra storm on the outside.
This article is our attempt to give you the most useful version of that answer — enough to budget realistically, and enough to spot a quote that is too good to be true.
The Number You See, and Why It Misleads
Browse the Ghana classifieds and you will see aluminium window units listed from around GH₵100. That figure is real, and we will not pretend otherwise. But it is the price of a loose unit — a frame and a pane, sold on price alone, with no glazing specification, no thermal break, no anchoring, and no weather-sealing.
A window is not a frame. A window is the whole assembly: the frame, the glass, the gaskets, the hardware, and — most of all — the way it is anchored and sealed into the wall. The bare-frame price tells you almost nothing about what the installed window will cost, because the cheap unit and the properly specified one start to diverge the moment you ask them to do a job.
What “Installed” Actually Adds
When we quote a window, the price covers more than the unit:
- Glazing to the requirement — single, double-glazed (IGU), laminated or toughened, chosen for the room, not assumed.
- A thermal break where it earns its place — on air-conditioned rooms, to cut heat gain and the condensation that drips off a cold bare frame.
- Anchoring and perimeter sealing — the part that decides whether the window leaks, and the part the bare-frame price ignores entirely.
- Access — a ground-floor opening and a third-floor elevation are not the same job.
What Really Moves the Price
A few honest drivers decide where your figure lands:
Frame Type
A sliding window and a casement are not the same money. A casement, sliding or tilt-turn frame each carries its own cost, and the right one follows the elevation, not the budget.
Glass
Glass is often the biggest single variable. A basic single pane is one figure; a double-glazed IGU with laminated safety glass for a coastal high-rise is another. The glass is specified to the wind and water exposure, not chosen last.
Size, Quantity and Wind Exposure
A large opening on an exposed elevation needs a heavier frame rated to a higher performance class. The size of the opening and the wind it faces move the cost as much as anything.
Finish
Mill, anodised or powder-coated to a RAL colour — the finish is a real line on the quote.
So What Should I Budget?
Here is our honest position. We will not quote you a fixed number in an article, because a number that ignores your opening would not hold, and quoting a figure that collapses on survey serves nobody.
What we will tell you is this: aluminium window units start from around GH₵100 as a bare entry point, and a specified, fabricated and installed window is quoted on survey — because the glass, the performance class, the size and the access decide the figure far more than the frame alone. We give you the real number once we have read the opening. For the full picture, our aluminium windows cost guide walks through material versus installed pricing in detail.
How to Read a Quote (and Spot a Bad One)
A trustworthy aluminium window quote should be specific about:
- The frame system and whether a thermal break is included.
- The glass — pane count, and whether it is laminated or toughened.
- The performance class — and ideally a reference to the real standards windows are tested against: air infiltration (ASTM E283), water penetration (ASTM E331) and wind load (ASTM E330).
- The install scope — anchoring, sealing and weatherproofing, not just “supply.”
If a quote is only a frame price with none of that, it is a unit price wearing a window’s clothes. Most leaks come from a bad install around a good window, not from the window itself — so a quote that prices the frame but not the install is the one to question.
